THE three-year geo-hazard mapping program is being hindered by lack of government geologists.


"Kulang talaga (really lacking),” said Beverly Mae Brevante, officer-in-charge of the Geosciences Division of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB)-Davao Region.


Olay earns 3rd IM norm

KIDAPAWAN City native national master (NM) Reggie Olay earned his third IM norm by grabbing his sixth points after eight rounds of the ongoing DYTM Raja Dr. Nazrin Shah Invitational Masters at the Swiss Garden Hotel & Residences in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia late Friday.


Olay only needed to score 5.5 points to earn his last IM norm. He has to improve his ELO rating to 2400 though to become a full-pledged IM.


Law enforcement chiefs all passed drug tests

CHIEFS of the Traffic Management Center (TMC), Central Communications and Emergency Response Center (CCERC), Davao City Police Office (DCPO), and Task Force Davao (TFD) passed the drug tests conducted recently.


However, based on the results of the test conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency this year, 17 personnel from various agencies tested positive for drug use, including five from TMC, three from Central 911, two from TFD, one from SCAA, and six from DCPO.

IN PAST staging of the Shell National Youth Active Chess Championships (SNYACC) Mindanao leg, Jon Christian Timbol Lesaca didn't make it on top.


It was such a great relief that in the 19th edition of the Mindanao qualifying held at the SM City Davao Events Centre on August 27 and 28, Tom-Tom captured the juniors crown in the category that drew 100 players all over Mindanao.


No exact count of Dabawenyo OFWs in Libya, Syria: DFA

THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in Davao Region on Thursday admitted it does not have an exact count of the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Davao holed up in Libya and Syria.


Conegundo Fernandez, DFA administrative officer, said they have no way of knowing how many of the OFWs in Libya and Syria are from Davao because the OFWs usually put Manila as their address in their application or departure forms.


'Tuko' buyers duped, run to police for help

A GROUP of men who are into the tuko-buying craze ended up being duped by a gang of swindlers instead and have sought the help of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).


According to one of the victims who pleaded not to be named, he and his friends heard that Philippine gecko or tuko can be had in Kitaotao, Bukidnon and so they went there to buy a big one.

DAVAO City is the second quickest in the country to allow the start of a business and the first in dealing with construction permits, a survey revealed.


Doing Business Survey 2011 compared the regulatory environment for business in 25 cities in the Philippines.
